The Studio
Every painting is created in my home art studio in Northwestern Washington State, surrounded by wilderness that constantly finds its way into the work — the forests, the fog, the strange quiet of it all. I don't have to look far for inspiration; it's right outside the window.
The Paint
I source the highest quality pigments from around the world, then mix them by hand into raw linseed oil using a glass palette, muller, and palette knives; the same method Renaissance masters used centuries ago. Cold wax gets worked in during the painting process, building the texture that gives each piece its depth.
The Canvas
Instead of buying pre-made canvases, I build every wooden frame myself, thick-edged, heavy, and backed with plywood to protect the fabric. It’s more work, but it means each painting is built to outlast me by several lifetimes.
The Stories Behind It All
Many of my paintings begin with a story. Sometimes it’s a piece of folklore, a cryptid sighting, or a mystery that refuses to fully explain itself. Other times inspiration comes from the fantasy worlds, films, and books that have shaped how I imagine worlds beyond ours. I spend a lot of time researching these stories, asking where they come from and why they continue to capture our attention.
